Patients Satisfaction After Arthroscopic Acl Reconstruction Using The Lars Artificial Ligament

Abstract:

The purpose of this study is to assess patient satisfaction, with the objective measurment of the knee stability, and to assess early complications following acl reconstruction , using a lars artificial ligament. One hundred and forty eight patients were reviewed 8-45 months after surgery. Assessment was made by the knee and osteoarthritis outcome score (koos) for patient satisfaction.

Complications were assessed at interview. It is concluded that the lars artificial ligament may be a safe device to reconstruct an acl tear, mainly in multiple knee injuries.

A questionnaire assessing patient satisfaction should provide a better picture of the outcome and results.

Technique:
Through the arthroscope, and using the arthrex instruments, a 6 mm. Bony tunnels are drilled, at the exact isometric positisions, at tibia and femur. The ligament is passed through the old acl stump, and is fixed with 2 interference screws at both ends.
All cases were followed-up for 2-4 months, allowed return to full daily activities in 2-6 weeks, and sports in 3-4 months ..

Results:
Assessment of patients at 24-66 months after surgery, using the functional knee score of tenger & lysholm (1985), were excellent –good in 80.6%, and fair –poor in 19.4%

Conclusion:
The majority of patients who had arthroscopic acl reconstruction, had overall (80.5%) satisfactory result, 2-5 years after operation. complications were few, and recovery was quick.
